Southwest Baptist University (SBU) occurs as personal institute of higher education connected using a Missouri Baptist Convention which is section of the Southern Baptist Convention. Withinside 2003 there were or so 3,600 students attending at one of SBU’s tetrad campuses in Bolivar, Mountain View, Salem, and Springfield.
History
Abner S. Ingman & James R. Maupwitharound founded Southwest Baptist College in 1878 in Lebanon. Inside 1879 a state of Missouri chartered a school & it moved to Bolivar. a college went across numbers of fiscal difficulties & around 1908 a fire destroyed the merely building in campus. A college remained closed from either 1908-1913 until Missouri Baptists & metropolitan area supporters helped it open over again as a 2-biennial junior college. Inside 1964 it became the quaternion season liberal arts college & around 1981 Southwest Baptist College was renamed Southwest Baptist University. Inside 1995 SBU agreed sustaining St. John’s School of Nursing, the traditionally Catholic institution, to form St. John’s School of Nursing of Southwest Baptist University, which is located in Springfield MO.
